Hotels on the Spice Islands of Zanzibar

Between December and May is turtle season when these pre-historic creatures can be seen in the water and on the beaches. Deep sea fishing and diving courses are available at additional cost. A walk around the island reveals a variety of sea birds whilst snorkeling amongst the coral reefs introduces one to the magnificent colourful aquatic world. Mnemba Island is closed annually from 1st April to 31st May inclusive.

Fundu Lagoon, Pemba Island

Only 20 miles off the mainland of Tanzania, in crystal clear turquoise waters, is the secretive island of Pemba. Fundu Lagoon is situated on the southwestern coast of Pemba Island and is only accessible by boat. It is nestled into the secluded, untouched coastline of the Wambaa Peninsula and boasts one kilometre of private, white sandy beach.

The twenty designer tents are set under makuti roofs on wooden decks. Each has an en suite shower, w/c and basin with standing fans, desk and wardrobe. Ten tents are situated along the beachfront and the remaining ten on the hillside, all with superb views of the bay. Furnishings are stylish yet simple and are made from natural, local materials.

Snorkelling trips to Mesali Island, dhow sunset cruises and canoe safaris through the mangroves are available at no extra charge, yet are subject to availability. Pemba is listed as one of the top diving locations in the world and Fundu has a fully equipped dive centre and a fully rigged deep sea fishing boat for charter.

Activities subject to additional cost include scuba diving, water-skiing and wake-boarding.  Fundu has excellent bird life including several species only found on Pemba.

Karafuu Hotel

Located on the unspoilt eastern coast of Zanzibar, Karafuu Hotel is approximately 65km from Zanzibar town and airport. The hotel is built on seven hectares of pleasant tropical garden and consists of 61 junior suite cottages and 31 standard rooms. All rooms are air-conditioned and built under makuti thatch. They are furnished with traditional Zanzibar furniture and are extremely spacious with en suite facilities.

Four restaurants, a cocktail bar, boutique and games room complete the main areas. There is also a discotheque, swimming pool, tennis courts, beauty parlour and two tennis courts for guests' enjoyment. Ras Nungwi Beach Resort

Located on an expanse of beach wilderness on Zanzibar's northern tip, Ras Nungwi is a small and friendly beach hotel with a difference. Each of the 32 rooms has en suite facilities, and are individually furnished in Zanzibarian style with four-poster beds, ceiling fans and balconies. Superior and superior deluxe chalets are air-conditioned.

The proximity and variety of the surrounding coral reefs makes Ras Nungwi the perfect diving destination and the hotel has an on-site fully equipped dive centre and swimming pool.
